The Aiming for a Cure Foundation is pleased to announce
that the 2010 7th Annual Celebrity Hunt coupled with Saturday Night's Banquet
and Auction was as always a wonderful weekend & a huge success.
Friday night committee members, volunteers, celebrities, & hunters all gathered
at the Sheraton in Iowa City for the Draw Party. It was a wonderful
beginning to the weekend as both new & returning participants, some that haven't
seen each other since the 2009 Event, enjoyed fantastic company as well as
wonderful appetizers, pizza, & drinks.
Early Saturday morning everyone
gathered @ Highland Hideaway Hunting in Riverside for a fantastic breakfast
before half of the teams headed into the fields while the other half shot a
humbling sporting clay course.
Allen Treadwell, one of this years guest celebrities, was certainly an asset to
his team on the sporting clay course. As a 2003 collegiate champion and
holder of numerous national records he certainly brought something special to
the course at this years event.
Numerous guides worked dilligently in the many fields Highland Hideaway makes
available during the event to provide each team every opportunity to maximize
their field scores and increase their chances to be this years winning team.
Saturday night almost 500 people gathered for the banquet and auction. The
evening presented many opportunities to learn more about the Aiming For A Cure
Foundation, meet children who have been treated at the hospital and mingle with
the celebrities and other guests. Rachel Ries, daughter of founders Steve
and Jodie, brought the invocation that was written by her brother Ben.
Michelle Altmaier, Director of Children's Miracle Network, welcomed the crowd
and introduced patient Sierra Manning, just two days out from brain surgery.
Along side Sierra was her best friend Briley. Jody Kurtt, Director of
Children's and Women's Services at UI Children's Hospital, thanked the Ries
Family for their vision and support. Steve Ries recognized sponsors and
introduced Jason Andrews from Center Point, IA. In his inspirational
message he explained the unique circumstances as a first responder that brought
him to know Ben Ries and his own journey back to memories of childhood cancer.
Andrews emotionally charged testimony of his life led us into a successful
silent and live auction.
Again Sunday the teams gathered for breakfast at Highland Hideaway after which
they hunted and shot sporting clays for a second day. The wondeful weekend
was concluded with an awards ceremony where the events top teams were
recognized.
Thank You to all of those involved in the
7th Annual Aiming For A Cure Celebrity Hunt, Banquet, & Auction. With your
support as long as the children need us we will continue Aiming For A Cure!!
