Jess Settles was an all-stater for three years at Winfield-Mt.-Union High School and was named Iowa’s Mr. Basketball in 1993 and Parade All-American 4th Team. He went on to join the Hawkeyes and become one of Iowa’s greatest basketball players of all time. In his freshman year, he was named Big 10 Freshman of the Year and 3rd Team All-Conference. By his senior year, he was First Team All-Big 10 and Honorable Mention All-American. He was also an Academic All-American. Jess still appears in the UI record books in many categories, including 11th in scoring, 8th in 3-point field goals and attempts, 11th in rebounds, and 12th in steals, free throws, and free throw attempts. After his playing days, Jess coached at Iowa Wesleyan and is an analyst with the Big Ten Network. He also farms with his father and uncle near Winfield, where he lives with his wife Joanna and their three daughters, Jema, Josie, and Julia.
