Phil sold his first magazine story in 1985. A full-time outdoor writer since 1993, his work has appeared in numerous national publications including Field & Steam, Outdoor Life, Sports Afield, American Rifleman and Time. Named Field & Stream’s Shooting Editor in 2002, he contributes a monthly shotgunning column to the magazine. He is also the author of the Field & Stream Turkey Hunting Handbook. He has traveled to 19 states, 3 Canadian provinces and South America in pursuit of upland birds.
Dan Gable
During his prep and college Wrestling careers, Dan Gable compiled an unbelievable record of 181-1. He was undefeated in 64 prep matches, and was 117-1 at Iowa State University. Gable was a two time NCAA National Wrestling Champion and three-time all-American and three-time Big Eight champion. He set NCAA records in winning and pin streaks. After college, Gable added titles at the 1971 Pan American Games in Cali Columbia and World Championships in Sofia Bulgaria and in 1972 the Soviet Union’s famed Tbilisi Tournament in Tblisi Georgia. He won an unprecedented six Midlands Open championships and was that meet’s outstanding wrestler five times. Gable won a Gold Medal at famed 1972 Summer Olympics in Munich Germany without surrendering a single point. In Gable’s final 21 Olympic qualification and Olympic matches, he scored 12 falls and outscored his nine other opponents, 130-1. As the University of Iowa’s all-time winningest coach from 1976 to 1997, Gable won 15 NCAA National Wrestling Team Titles while compiling a career record of 355-21-5, He coached 152 All-Americans, 45 National Champions, 106 Big Ten Champions and 12 Olympians, including four gold, one silver and three bronze medalists. Ashley Jay
Ashley Jay is 25 years old and currently residing in Greenville, South Carolina. She’s always had a passion for the outdoors and grew up heavily involved with equestrian riding and learning about conservation in the Florida Everglades. Her journey as an outdoor personality started in 2009 when she began to shoot competitive archery. Jay then became a student of the outdoors by reaching out to those around her to learn as much as she could about wildlife, hunting and farming. Since she got started, she hasn’t looked back and is thankful that the Lord opened up so many opportunities. Jay is now the co-host of Knight and Hales Ultimate Hunting on the Outdoor Channel with legends Harold Knight and David Hale. In addition, she shoots competitively in ASA tournaments, works with PRADCO Outdoor Brands, serves as an assistant coach for the high school volleyball team, competes in NPC fitness competitions, trains horses and gets to travel the world hunting and sharing with those who have the same passion for the outdoors as she does. Caleb Reynolds
Caleb Matthew Reynolds, a hunting guide from Hopkinsville, Kentucky, is probably best known for being recruited and starring in the show Big Brother after applying for The Amazing Race with his friend. Originally from Dallas, Texas, Caleb considers his most important accomplishment serving in the US Army in Iraq. Caleb currently works for Veterans Xtreme Adventures, a non-profit organization founded by his father, that provides wounded veterans with hunting opportunities and other therapeutic excursions.
Joshua Richmond
Staff Sergeant Joshua Richmond’s father won him his first shotgun at a trap competition when Josh’s mother was pregnant with him. He fired his first shot out of a shotgun at the age of 5 and began shooting competitively at the age of 11. Josh is currently a member of the U.S. Army Marksmanship Unit at Fort Benning, GA and is taking online courses through Troy State University, studying general education. Josh is among the leading Men’s Double Trap shooters in the world. He was on his high school basketball team and enjoys bass fishing, hunting, horseback riding and anything in the outdoors. Part of USAMU’s sport demonstration team, traveling around the country doing shooting demonstrations to raise sport and Army awareness on behalf of the USAMU. Josh is also part of the ‘Impossible Shots’ demonstration team for the television show Shooting USA ‘Impossible Shots.’ Married to wife Scharri and father to two boys, Tristan and Beaux.
Brenda Valentine
Brenda Valentine, aka “First Lady of Hunting™”, is a committed conservationist, extreme hunter, award winning T.V. host, champion archer, acclaimed author, and outspoken advocate for guns and hunting. She is credited for being the leader of the current women’s hunting movement. Brenda is a 16-year veteran member of Bass Pro Shop’s National RedHead Pro Hunting Team. She serves as a National Spokesperson for the National Wild Turkey Federation and is an honorary member of their Foundation Board of Directors. She writes regular columns in NWTF’s Turkey Country and Mossy Oak Biologic Game Keepers magazines.
